With over 30 years of horse experience (Mostly in Montana) the mother and daughter team, Susanne and Lisa operate a western ranch at The Serenity Ranch on the East coast. From miniature horses, to Clydesdales, and all those in between. From rehabbing injured or sick animals to rescuing abused and neglected horses, the ladies have seen it all. They have a unique ability to understand what horses need and nurse and care for them until they are once again healthy.

Throughout these years rescuing horses has been a passion they have both shared. They have been able to provide a home for many senior and or retired horses. These horses are living out their lives with them forever.

Susanne and Lisa train and ride but do not compete; their discipline is strictly western pleasure. They have worked very closely with a non-profit in Montana that used horses to help male Veterans with PTSD and trauma. In being involved with them, they both felt there was a need for a program for female veterans. Through the ladies horse rescue nonprofit, The Serenity Ranch, support and guidance was offered for many individuals and women utilizing horses and horsemanship skills in Montana.

In the winter of 2019, hardship fell upon the facility. Their indoor arena collapsed due to heavy snow and freezing temperatures. The arena was where programs were offered and horses were worked and trained. The freezing temperatures, drastic decline in donations as a result of COVID, and yearning to be closer to family led the ladies to close their doors and move to Connecticut, with their horses!

After taking 2 and a half years to acclimate the horses to the much wetter, humid climate, The Serenity Ranch is open again!

We look forward to being a part of a new community and providing a safe and sacred space for individuals that need assistance.

We are currently actively fundraising to help care for the horses, and our trusty dexter Diva Cow. We plan on starting programs in May of 2024. A lot of work needs to be done between now and then and we need your help! Please contact for any additional information or if interested in volunteering!
